Like a Book? #Writing a Review Helps Authors

Reviews are the lifeblood for authors. Once a book has 50 reviews, it gets better exposure on Amazon. I borrowed this meme from Linda Yezak's blog, 777 Peppermint Place, because it's worth knowing.

Do you write reviews? If you're not sure how, go to Linda's blog. I put the link above. She explains how to do it.

  1. I always write reviews. I know how important they are. I try never to give bad reviews. If I'm not completely happy with a book, I will find something positive about it, so that I can be kind in my review....those books may not get a lot of stars, but I won't pounce on them. I've yet to read a book that I completely hate, so not sure what I'd do then.

  2. I know you do, and I like your philosophy about it. The only book I ever absolutely hated was one that glorified being bad ... and it was for little children!! I said in my review that was what was wrong with America.

  3. first off, i write reviews (not always, sorry... ) and if i can't give 4 or 5 stars i contact the author (because i now have at least some level of contact) and tell him or her why i can't give more than 3 stars. i've only had one person balk at that, and we no longer have any interaction—oh well.

i do have a question. this has come up more than once in a writer's group i belong to for indies. there is great concern over writers giving reviews to other writers, that is violates amazon's terms and rules. the apparent threat is that amazon will shut down an account—including the ability (privilege) to publish with them!—for giving favorable reviews to other authors because they see it as friendship, and deem it unprofessional.
so my question is, is this true? what is the restriction on authors reviewing other authors? as in indie amazon is my only publishing venue and i can't lose that. it's quite the conundrum!!!

  4. Robin, I don't know for sure about that. One author I know is a hybrid author. She read a book in her genre and gave an honest review. She was warned by Amazon for that because it was the same genre she writes in. I'm glad you mentioned it. I'll see what I can find out.
