Writer's Contests

The contest season is well underway. Besides the ACFW or RWA contests, there are a host of others out there. I decided to explore and see what I could find.

The Bridport Prize is for poems, short stories, and flash fiction. It’s out of England. Costs & prizes are in pounds.
Poems:  42 lines maximum, no minimum
Short stories:  5000 words maximum, no minimum
Flash fiction:  250 words maximum, no minimum

This site lists 23 short story contests for 2016. Many of the listed contests are through newspapers (like the Chicago Tribune) and other respected places.  http://www.aerogrammestudio.com/2015/12/01/short-story-competitions-in-2016/

This is an interesting site for listed contests. http://www.newpages.com/classifieds/big-list-of-writing-contests Then have several of all kinds.

Here’s a cool site, listing 27 (and ends up with 29) legitimate contests. http://thewritelife.com/27-free-writing-contests/

You can’t get more respectable than Writer’s Digest. Here’s their competition info: http://www.writersdigest.com/writers-digest-competitions/annual-writing-competition

The same can be said for The Writer Magazine. Here’s their contest: http://www.writermag.com/writing-resources/contests/

Have a good contest to share with our readers?

While a large, floppy straw hat is her favorite, Ane has worn many different ones: legislative affairs director (that's a fancy name for a lobbyist), drama director, multi-published playwright, humor columnist, and novelist. Her lifetime experience provides a plethora of fodder for her Southern-fried fiction (try saying that three times fast). She firmly believes coffee and chocolate are two of the four major food groups. Ane resides in Sugar Hill, GA, with her artist husband, her chef son, and a mastiff that thinks he's people. You can find Ane on her Amazon author page, her Southern-fried Fiction website, Google+, Facebook, Goodreads, Twitter, and Pinterest.
