Why is it that so many women allow themselves to be
emotionally or physically abused? Do we deserve it? No. But we tend to make
excuses for why the abuse happens, afraid of what life would be like if we
weren’t suffering at the hand of someone we supposedly need and love.
On the other hand, some of us have the Savior mentality.
If we hang in there, maybe we can love him into changing. Can’t he see it in
our eyes? Doesn’t he trust our heart?
And we continue to live the lie.
Gina Holmes writes a compelling story in Wings of Glass. Through telling the
story of Penny “One-Cent” Taylor and her abusive husband, Trent, Gina hits the
nail on the head. Pulling no punches, Gina writes an accurate description of
living under abuse and the dangers women face every day.
Emotional, heart-pounding, and full of expectation, I
couldn’t put it down. I read it in three days’ time, a rare thing for me.
Wings
of Glass is a story of triumph and overcoming mountains. If you
know a woman who suffers at the hand of an abuser, I highly recommend gifting
her with Gina’s book. Maybe it will encourage her to stand up for herself and
triumph as well.
From the best-selling author of Crossing Oceans, comes a heartrending yet uplifting story of
friendship and redemption. On the cusp of adulthood, eighteen-year-old Penny
Carson is swept off her feet by a handsome farmhand with a confident swagger.
Though Trent Taylor seems like Prince Charming and offers an escape from her
one-stop-sign town, Penny’s happily-ever-after lasts no longer than their
breakneck courtship. Before the ink even dries on their marriage certificate,
he hits her for the first time. It isn’t the last, yet the bruises that can’t
be seen are the most painful of all.
When Trent is injured in a welding accident and his
paycheck stops, he has no choice but to finally allow Penny to take a job
cleaning houses. Here she meets two women from very different worlds who will
teach her to live and laugh again, and lend her their backbones just long
enough for her to find her own.
Gina Holmes ’ stunning literary talent glistens like
crystal in Wings of Glass. With subtle brilliance, she takes us into the very
heart of what makes us hungry to love and be loved. Simply stellar!” Susan

Thank God for friends that help the abused. I had a few that helped me recover from childhood sexual abuse. This sounds like a book that is needed today.

DeleteHi, What a beautiful cover on this book!
ReplyDeleteI do have two friends that I am constantly telling
and helping to leave their unhealthy situations...
Whether it is physical abuse, mental abuse or both,
no one deserves that kind of treatment. One needs to
love oneself!
Many thanks, Cindi

Thanks Cindy. Those are just the ladies I wrote this for. Sometimes coming at someone straight on doesn't work (it didn't with me), but a novel? Well... maybe... Thanks for the comment!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Alycia, for a lovely review!
ReplyDeleteGina - Been looking forward to this book since I first saw the cover. Love the concept. And after reading Crossing Oceans, I'm torn between being excited and dreading reading this... excited, because it's not easy to find REAL stories in fiction, and dreading it, because when I think about CO, my heart still hurts a little. :-) So it's all good. Would LOVE a chance to win a copy of Wings of Glass.

ReplyDeleteGina has a way of cutting through to the harsh realities of life, then revealing the hope that lies beneath. I can't wait to read this one.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ron :) Nice way to put it.
DeleteI heard that of the novels she's written, this is Gina Holmes' favorite one to date. That, plus the compelling premise, makes me very eager to add it to my shelf.
ReplyDeleteThanks Katherine. It is my favorite and that's saying a lot because the first, Crossing Oceans, was dear to my heart too. Thanks for the comment!
DeleteGina, I haven't had the privilege of reading one of your books, but this one sounds like a good one. I love the title and cover. My daughter was just assigned a case of an abused, young mother. After meeting with her, my daughter had to go to the county jail and meet with the abuser--too scary for me!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kay! Sounds like your daughter is going to be in an interesting position.
