Frustrated?
Writing is a joy and a privilege and can be a marvelously fulfilling
experience, but it can be the opposite of those things just as easily.
Many of us have loved to write from as far back as we can remember.
Words have been woven into our lives from the beginning and never
completely disappeared. They might have had to be resurrected from a temporary
death, but they came alive at some point and managed to create stories, essays,
or however we morphed into using them in an organized form.
But then . . . sometimes frustration enters the fray.
Words refuse to assert themselves. Life takes over and demands attention.
Put-offs, delays, regression, motivation lags, dramatic interference.
Innumerable things to waylay writing. Do you wonder if it's worth it? Will you
ever make a difference with your efforts?
If you had to name your frustration(s), what would you say?
As believers, we recognize there is a reason for all things. Purpose
lurks behind every mishap and setback. Is that understanding enough for
us to regain confidence that writing will bloom again, resume its passion,
ignite our desires to create?
What are your frustrations?

One of my biggest frustrations is all the time and effort I put into marketing to see such minimal results, and that's time stolen away from writing. But, if I learn what works and what doesn't, then in the future, my marketing should become more efficient.
ReplyDeleteGood point, Bren. I can't think of a harder time to market novels. So many books, so many social media outlets. Do too much, people skip over you. Do too little, nobody knows you wrote a book. Definitely a major source of frustration.
ReplyDeleteGirl, you nailed my current situation, lack of motivation, life taking over demanding attention etc., all of the above...lol. But one thing still survives despite all the frustrations; my love of good storytelling through the written word. Tapping into the human experience, that common journey of life with stories that inspire, excite, educate, and edify. That still stirs my soul. Stories are still parading through my mind and that keeps me writing even when I want to stop. That and knowing my gracious God gave me this gift to use for His Glory.
ReplyDeleteAmen, Sister. You sound inspired to me! Keep on keepin' on, Marlene. The world and the Lord's kingdom need your words!
