Self-Publish Book Give Away

Note from Gina: While self-publishing isn't the way I went, or the way I think most of you should go, it is right for some. I was sent this book and found it to be a good resource. We will pick one person from the comments to receive a free copy.

You want to get published. You want to control the future of your manuscript and your writing career.

In this fifth edition of a self-publishing classic, best-selling author Marilyn Ross and publishing expert Sue Collier empower writers to publish their own work with minimal risk and maximum profits.

Inside The Complete Guide to Self-Publishing, writers will find step-by-step guidance on publishing and marketing a book. From print-on-demand publishing to subsidy publishing to true self-publishing, the book provides a thorough explanation of how to decide which option is best.

Marilyn and Sue then help writers jumpstart a publicity campaign with a detailed marketing plan and timetable, as well as appendices filled with marketing contacts, organizations and vendors. Writers will also benefit from valuable case studies and examples of how other publishers have found success.

This expanded and revised edition of the bible of self-publishing also offers the latest information and cutting-edge advice on e-publishing and Internet marketing, with a chapter on ways to leverage social media marketing to create buzz and stand out from the crowd.

With an in-depth discussion of exclusive distributors, plus coverage of the most recent changes in bookstores and the book-selling industry, The Complete Guide to Self-Publishing equips writers with everything they need to publish and promote their books and take control of their writing career.

  1. Gina, I think the motives for many of us might have changed over the years. It's a valid way to publish. It will always empower those who have the money and not the skills, but it's invalid today to tag that assumption onto every self-published title. The greatest difficulty is marketing the work--especially fiction. And getting it done well isn't cheap.

  2. There was a time when I wouldn't have even considered self-publishing, but as traditional publishing for an author has pretty much become "do it yourself" in a great many ways---I'm no longer able to see that much difference between the two.

  3. Hi Gina,
Thank you for this article that seems to be a beginning validation to self-publishing. I studied long and hard over what to do when I wrote my novel, Finding Herself Blessed, and chose self-publishing for two major reasons. For one thing, I am getting older and wanted to get the book into print for a specific audience without the long wait and the involved route of hopefully being given a contract. For another, I wrote a Christian novel, into which I poured not only my time and energy, but also the very heart of who I am spiritually and I could not take the chance of someone else owning it and possibly altering its essense.
I would love to send you a copy of Finding Herself Blessed if you will provide me an address. Also, please see my website at janieupchurch.com for more information on how professional a self-publisher can be.
Thank you, again, for this article and opportunity to share my heart.

  7. Thanks all. Nicole, I just endorsed a very well done self-published title. Most are still substandard, but never have I implied that all were.

Jill W has won the title. Jill please email me your address.
