A French novelist won the 2008 Noble Prize for literature. His work was noted as an "author of new departures, poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy, explorer of a humanity beyond and below the reigning civilization." There’s been a string of European winners over the last few years. The last American to win the Noble Prize for literature was Toni Morrison in 1993, and before her, John Steinbeck in 1964.
Barbour Publishing's publicity department is "going green" with NetGalley, an online service that delivers galleys and press materials saving on paper. It will allow registered members to view galleys online, cutting back the number of hard copies to "a very limited number."
