What Was Your Word Count This Week?

There are some weeks when writing comes easy, and some weeks when each word feels like you're squeezing blood.

So I'm curious, what did your word count look like this week?

  1. Jessica,

I'm a hemophiliac in regards to words. I over write, and bleed all over the page. I'm cutting back now, in the editing process. I didn't lose as much as I'd have liked this week, because several passages needed extensive revision. But over all, I've lost 50,000 words--nearly a novel's worth! Much, much more to go. Did I mention I over write?

  2. That was depressing, Jess. Thanks.

At least I'm not alone. SIGH.

  3. (laughing) Okay, but I have an excuse...I'm in San Antonio visiting with my crit group. Needless to say, we're NOT critiquing. We are, however, having a very good time DISCUSSING what we're critiquing.

  4. Right now, I'm in the getting-to-know-my-characters stage and plotting. I'll start the writing soon.

  5. Hey guys thanks for taking the poll.

Lori, I know just what you mean. I write WAY better stories when I can get it all on page and then look at it. I'm currently in the process of (re)finishing the first third of my book. After I finish, I'm cutting to 40K. I don't even want to know what it is now. The story is flowing to well.

Kelly, sigh, I know those weeks!

Lisa, I didn't know you were in San Antonio. Great that you're getting some one-on-one time with your other partners.

Ane, I bet you edited between 5K-10K words this week.

  6. Thanks for asking. I used to have an online bud ask daily for my word count when I needed incentive, and it pushes me to stay on task and get more words done, knowing someone will ask.

-0- words for me this week and last week, but mental editing always going on.

I am trying hard to finish the first draft and nearing the end, have a goal of at least 1000 wpd, but have not even cracked open the ms the last 2 weeks with several important functions to prepare for, taking me away from the keyboard, but not my story. At least my mind has been mulling over the last scene I wrote, trying to decide why I don't like it, and figured out what it needs changed. (Funny what your brain can do while blowing up balloons.) Getting past that bump will help me get rolling those words out again as soon as things settle down around here.

Thanks Novel Journey Ladies. I've learned so much here... you keep me challenged and reaching higher. :)
