Imagine yourself dressed for dinner, ushered into a ballroom filled with hundreds of novelists, editors, agents and media. Everyone surrounding you loves books. Everyone surrounding you loves the Lord. It doesn't get much better than that.
Ane and I attended our first Christy Awards ceremony. The attire ranged from church type dresses to sequins. Everyone looked lovely. A highlight for me was chatting with Randy Alcorn (pictures to follow), hugging my friends Camy Tang, Dee Stewart, Heather Ivester, Austin Boyd, Deb Raney and Colleen Coble (and a host of others). I also got to interview the Christy winners and some nominees. I joked with the lovely and demure Beverly Lewis among others.
The food wasn't bad either.
What kind of reporting is this? No best and worst dressed photos? No embarrassing trips or showing slips? Wow, I always thought Stephen King would be scary in person, but not THAT scary:)
ReplyDeleteYou guys are so cute. Can't wait to see you in Dallas!
You caught that, huh? LOL
ReplyDeleteWhen people saw the camera, they made us sign promises of no spinach in the teeth photos. Sigh. Some people are so picky!
I didn't know you guys were down there. Love having this insider glimpse into the awards. (Loved the Stephen King reference.)
ReplyDeleteDah-lins, y'all look "loverly" (of My Fair Lady). Really, you all look beautiful. Glad to hear about the awards banquet. Vicariously, I was there, through your pics and post. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI'd say Brandilyn was the best dressed, though lots of folks looked really nice--Karen Ball, Beverly Lewis, Allison Bottke, Eva Marie Everson, and the list goes on.
ReplyDeleteThe worst dressed? The dude who showed up in the superman outfit with his nipples and belly button cut out. That was just plain wierd ; )
Gina and Ane --
ReplyDeleteIt was a TRUE JOY to meet both of you in person! And then the surprise that we actually got to sit and eat together. Almost too much! :)
Meeting Nora was wonderful -- we've already exchanged emails. Turns out my sister is moving near one of the stores where she hosts a book club. That's why I love attending events like these -- you never KNOW the amazing connections God ordains.
Lauren Winner's speech is definitely something I'll be feasting on for years...especially if I ever start writing fiction -- ha!
Heather, it was an awesome surprise to see you there, and sitting right at my table! Nora is the bomb. Meeting her was a definite highlight for me too. She loves God and books, two of my favorite subjects!
