Christmas was lovely. Though we're far from our extended families, our children make up for any joy lost. Seeing my five year old's face as he saw the new kitchen he's wanted, was, well, you know the feeling. He's all boy, but what can I say? The kid likes to cook. We're all for that.
Jacob (9) wanted a playstation and got one, but his biggest smile came from giving his mom and dad a book of haiku verses he wrote himself. Levi made us a plate of cookies at pre-school.
We lounged, ate, laughed, and read The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, but the best part of Christmas? Levi blessed the food and gave a heart-felt thanks to God for sending baby Jesus.
How was your Christmas?
Our first on-line critique is coming up along with some great editor and author interviews. The first day or two of the new year we'll be looking back to our favorite interviews and books of the year.
If you all would be willing to share the writing advice and books you've enjoyed most in 2006, that'd be great.

Our Christmas was quiet this year. Our eldest son and grandkids couldn't make it (they're in Texas).
ReplyDeleteBut without all the excitment and tearin ginto packages, this year held more spiritual gifts for me than ever. Forb that, I'm so thankful.
Tomorrow, the 27th is our anniversary. I won't say how many, because it's more that the age I'll admit to. ;)
That's great Gina. We read The Best Christmas Pageant Ever too! I love that book. Do you cry at the end? I do. Our day was wonderful. We stayed home in our PJ's, played and ate too much. My teen loves her IPod nano, and my little girls are delighted with their new American Girl dolls. (we're all girl over here:)
ReplyDeleteAne, I know what you were really doing on Christmas, you writaholic you.
ReplyDeleteJanet, we're not quite done the book. We started it on Christmas eve, so it will be a couple days as my son can only handle one chapter a day before he glazes over. I'll let you know. I've not read this story before so I'm anxious to see how it ends. It's very amusing so far.
Hi Girls, We had a strange Christmas down under! While you shiver we normally have a very hot Christmas day but this year we had torrential rain and hail! We have all been praying for rain due to drought and bushfires so we shouldn't be suprised! All girls in my house too (except hubby!). My 9 year old's joy at receiving oil paints, brushes and a palette hand made by her Pa (my dad) was priceless. Foe my youngest Fisher Price ruled and my 6 year old, the DVD of Cars was her best pick (not suprising given the end of a 5 week TV ban!!!). Here is my list of SOME of my favourite reads for 2006:
ReplyDeleteAllah's Fire by Chuck Holton and Gayle Roper
Castles in the Sand by Sally John
Coldwater Revival by Nancy Jo Jenkins
Everything's Coming Up Josey by Susan May Warren
Freefall by Kristin Heitzmann
My Life as a Doormat by Rene Gutteridge
Reconstructing Natalie by Laura Jensen Walker
The Cubicle Next Door by Siri Mitchell
Valiant Hope by Donna Fleisher
When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin
Wow, that's quite a list. We got Cars the movie too and I think a few of our top pics might just be on your list. Thanks for sharing that.
