S'up Saturday

First the exciting news: One of my critique partners, Lisa Ludwig, received the heart-stopping news that her cozy mystery was offered a contract...which of course she accepted! One critique partner down...

I also have good news. I am once again agented. I just signed with the wonderful Les Stobbe. Hooray.

Below is a link my critique partner Michelle sent to me. I'd love you to read it and comment either there or here and give your reaction. I had a strong one.
The post is titled Bashing CBA and Other Hobbies
http://teampyro.blogspot.com/2006/02/bashing-cba-and-other-hobbies.html

Next week: special two part telephone interview with KAREN KINGSBURY! She gives an awesome interview. You won't believe how God has blessed this author. She explains how she is able to have a daily word count of 10,000 and write such emotion evoking characters. We also have the inspiring author, Kim Sawyer!

Anyone have news to share?

  1. Hey Gina, congratulations on the agent. From what you've shared, it sounds like Mr. Stobbe will be a better fit for you. Seeking publication is hard enough without having a bad agent. I'm praying the Holy Spirit will "oil" this new relationship and ultimately bring your dreams to fruition.

  2. Lisa, congrats! WOOOHHOOOOO.

    Gina, congrats! Yahhhooooooooo!

I read the post you mentioned and made a comment (not a snide one, mind you.)

    Thanks for the heads up.

And does Karen Kingsbury really write 10,000 words a day????? Eeeek!

  3. Thanks Mary and Mike. (The last agent was a good one too, Mike. But maybe Les will ultimately be a better fit.)

Mary, yes Karen does write that much, sometimes 20k words or more. You won't believe how long it takes her to write a novel. Seriously, though I believe her. It seems impossible. You'll have to check out the interview. It's a fantastic one. (due to her answers)

  5. 10,000 words a day? Do I even read 10,000 words a day? Cringe. Can't wait for that interview!

  6. Gina and Lisa, congratulations! What wonderful news. You have sprung a well of hope within me.

10,000 words a day? Should I just give up now? I'm thinking so. The well just evaporated.

News - oh yeah, you forgot, Gina. ;-)

I have a review of HOUSE, the collaboration between Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti, on my Web site, www.illuminatingfiction.com. It also contains a mini interview with Ted Dekker.

  7. Vennessa, I'm sorry. I should have known I'd forget. Sorry. It's a great interview. I hope everyone will check it out.

  10. If anonymous says my agent is terrific, then I know that's right!

  11. Gina:

In the context of the kinds of people and opinions we get at TeamPyro every day, I didn't find your post there very "strong", but of course I was comparing it as lemon juice to the taste of straight lye. :)

An interesting perspective on my bashing CBA post there is that I was actually defending CBA from some of the bashing it had been getting at the blog. One of the things I made specific effort to do was to exempt fiction from being overly-scrutinized as something by which we receive doctrine. That is to say, I think we should hold non-fiction like Your Best Life Now to a much higher standard than (as two examples) Karen Kingsbury or even Ted Dekker when we are talking about what is and is not acceptable.

I run an indie Christian bookstore; I have been a CBA member, and I am a Munce Marketing member. I'm glad there's somebody other than the friends of Phil Johnson reading the blog and thinking about it.

  12. btw, a daily word count of 10K is pretty amazing. I can blog about 5K a day. I have to read that Kingsbury interview.

  13. Frank, thanks for the comment. I learned more about what you were discussing and I agree with what you're saying that we have a responsibility to teach truth. Calling the CBA a cess pool felt unfair though. But, I'm glad if there are false teachers (and I don't read the people you all have discussed) that they are admonished. Thanks for stopping by.
